Daily Three

(1) Bye-bye Alberto. He's hardly out the door and the expected deluge of reactions and speculations have already started. My respective picks for your consideration: Ed Morrissey on the right. Kyle Moore on the left. Of course, if those don't satisfy you, Memeorandum has the rest. And what do I make of all this? In short: No surprise; long overdue; pick a highly qualified replacement from the outside; and move on ... please.

(2) Top Iraqi leaders finally agree on something. That's encouraging, but the agreements "could face a stiff battle in Iraq's divided parliament," which likely means nothing gets resolved in the near term.

(3) An interesting article on the travails of a presidential candidate who (per conventional wisdom) should be doing better than he is. But the conventional wisdom in this case happens to be Karl Rove's conventional wisdom and, ahem, in case you didn't notice, Rove resigned. Could it be that (please tell me it's true) Republican candidates aren't as beholden to "the base" as they once were?
