At It Again: The Kettle and The Pot
No question about it: The MoveOn.org ad criticizing Petraeus crossed the line separating decorum and venom. But the resolution condemning it would surely carry more weight if it had been introduced by the Dems, policing their own base. But they won't do that any more than the Republicans will chastise their base for its Schiavo-like fiascoes. Unfortunately, wedge issues work both ways. Meanwhile, constructive democracy is the victim.

Pete,
I do agree with you but I think possibly you could have used a different Rep. fiasco than a reference to Terri Shiavo. It is well known that Shiavo had no living will, she was a devout Catholic, and her husband stood to inherit a life insurance… therefore her husband’s credibility was in question. Yes, the politicians and special interest groups used Shiavo as a big right to life campaign but the fact is there were some heavy legal issues to deal with on top of a personal agenda of a disreputable spouse. I can see how you could quickly link the two, but to me the comparison of the Dem’s political agenda behind MoveOn.org’s statements and the Rep. agenda with Shiavo is just absurd.
Anonymous,
Fair point. I wrote that quickly and used the first thing that came to mind. Perhaps the push for the marriage amendment would have been better?
What do you think?
