Daily Three
The NYT reports: "The police in Germany have arrested three Islamic militants suspected of planning major terrorist attacks against several sites frequented by Americans, including the busy United States air base at Ramstein and the Frankfurt international airport. ¶ The suspects — two German citizens and a Turkish resident of Germany — were in advanced stages of plotting bombing attacks that could have been deadlier than the terrorist strikes that killed dozens in London and Madrid, police and security officials said Wednesday."Who and what can we trust re: the question of progress in Iraq or the lack thereof? It's increasingly difficult to tell. Of course, that bastion of serious journalism, Katie Couric, thinks things are getting better. (And next we'll learn that Michael Moore has written Dan Rather, begging him to return.) At least this much is encouraging: "Six House Republicans and five Democrats released a letter yesterday to Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Minority Leader John A. Boehner (Ohio), asking them 'to put an end to the political in-fighting over the war in Iraq and allow the House to unite behind a bipartisan strategy to stabilize the country and bring our troops home.'"
Is the H. Clinton campaign attempting to bury a TV miniseries that raises questions about B. Clinton's legacy vis-a-vis bin Laden and 9/11? Some people apparently think so. This story reminds me of two things I find utterly useless and distasteful: First, looking backward to assign blame for one of the country's greatest tragedies. Second, any attempt by any party to squelch dissenting views or alternate perspectives.
